If you’re under the age of 25, you may think that it’s difficult to rent a car in Las Vegas. However, most rental car companies will rent to younger drivers under certain conditions.

How old do you have to be to rent a car in Las Vegas? As a whole, most car rental agencies in Las Vegas will allow drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 to rent a vehicle. Several companies will also rent to drivers as young as 19, given they have a major credit card and a valid driver’s license. All rental companies will charge a young driver fee to renters under the age of 25.

I called all of the major car rental companies in Las Vegas to see what their policy was for drivers under 25. In this article, I’ll cover everything you need to know about renting a car under 25, including some of the additional requirements and what companies are best.

Some rental car companies will charge different fees depending on the office location. The offices I called while doing research for this article were the Harry Reid Airport locations (formerly McCarran Airport). So if you rent a car in a non-airport office, the young driver fee may be slightly lower.

Age 21 – 24+: All rental car companies in Las Vegas will rent to drivers that are at least 21 years old.

Age 20: Thrifty, Dollar, Hertz, and Fox will all rent to drivers age 20 and over.

Age 19: Fox Rent a Car is the only car rental company in Las Vegas that will rent to drivers who are 19.

Age 18: If you’re 18 you can still rent a car in Las Vegas using the Turo app. Turo is a peer-to-peer carsharing app, very similar to Airbnb. Just know that they charge a young driver fee of $50/day if you’re under 21.

Rental Car Companies that Don’t Charge a Young Driver Fee

Which rental car company does not charge for under 25? All car rental companies charge a young renter fee to drivers under 25. They charge these fees because young drivers are more likely to get into an accident.

However, USAA members (United Service Automobile Association) can have their young driver fee waiver at Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise. Hertz will also waive the underage driver fee if you have a AAA membership (American Automobile Association).

If you aren’t a member of these organizations, you will have to pay the under 25 car rental fee. That’s simply the reality of an under 25 car rental.

Rental Requirements for Drivers Under 25 in Las Vegas

There are additional requirements for underaged drivers renting a car in Las Vegas. Most companies will limit the selection of vehicles that young drivers are able to rent. You may not be able to rent a luxury or specialty car over a certain value.

All young drivers must have a valid driver’s license and a major credit card. Many companies will not take debit cards if you’re under the age of 25. If you don’t have a credit card or have bad credit, there are companies that will allow you to rent using only cash.

Renting a Car Under 25 in Las Vegas with No Credit Card

It isn’t ideal to rent a car with cash, but it may be your best option in a pinch. There are several cash only car rental companies in Las Vegas.

Rentheim is the most reputable company that accepts cash as payment. They have really good reviews online, and their prices are actually pretty competitive with the major car rental companies.

There are a couple of things that you want to look out for when renting with cash. I cover those in-depth in this article here.

Cheap Car Rentals in Las Vegas Under 25

It’s no secret that a car rental can be expensive. Most rentals cost between $50-$80 a day. The cheapest place to rent a car under 25 is going to be Hertz.

They have the lowest young driver fee, and they have the lowest rates for compact cars. The table below is comparing the 5 cheapest rental companies for compact cars in Las Vegas (for a 3-day rental). This includes young driver fees.

ComapnyPrice (Prepay)Price (Pay on arrival)
Hertz$194.10$226.74
Dollar$206.70$231.98
Avis$234.87$242.97
SIXT$233.39
ACE$248.21

If you don’t care where get your rental from, Hertz locations are going to be the cheapest option. However, if you plan on getting a car from the airport, Hertz may not be your best option.

Renting a vehicle at the airport is a little bit different. The cheapest option is going to be booking through Priceline. However, to get the best rates through Priceline, you need to select the option that gives you a random company (they won’t tell you which company until after you book).

This can cause some issues if you’re under the age of 21 because there are only 4 companies that you can book with. In this case, I would say just go with Dollar or Hertz. They both have great rates, and you won’t have to worry about your age.

If you’re really concerned about price, check out the other article I wrote comparing the cheapest rental car companies at Las Vegas airport.

Luxury Car Rental Las Vegas Under 25

I mentioned earlier that many rental agencies put restrictions on younger drivers. However, there are a few car rental companies that allow drivers under 25 to rent luxury vehicles. Dream Exotics and All Star Cars will rent a luxury car to anyone who’s over the age of 21.

Of course, you need a valid driver’s license and insurance to rent an exotic car. But that’s those are the only restrictions at those car rental companies. I wrote a more in-depth post about luxury car rentals in Las Vegas here.

Rental Car Alternatives in Las Vegas

A car rental can take up a lot of your time and quickly turn into a pain. You don’t need your own car to get around Las Vegas efficiently. You can easily manage to get around the city without spending money on a rental.

Here are a few cheap car rental alternatives:

  • Rideshare (Uber and Lyft)
  • Taxi Cabs
  • Bus system
  • Monorail and Trams
  • Walking
